Programme
5 deals with the Spanish legacy in Guatemala. Hundreds of years
ago, Guatemala was an important Spanish colony. Today, the town
of Antigua Guatemala is a gem which is visited by thousands of tourists.
Antigua Guatemala was a spectacular city, the capital of Spanish
central America - until it was devastated by an earthquake. The
silent ruins inspire awe and tell us much about the Spanish influence
in Central America. The indigenous towns of Chichicastenango and
Santiago Atitlan offer a mix of rites and religions which make Guatemala
a unique place to experience.
