A Journey To The Bottom of the World

A contingent of scouts from Malta and Gozo joined about 20,000 fellow scouts from all over the world. This event is in the first programme which also includes a history of Chile and footage shot on location in the Atacama desert. Here the crew filmed remains at Tulor, an ancient village with clay huts hundred of years old partially buried in sand.

At Quitor, extensive filming of Inca defences reveals the style used for constructing villages by the inhabitants in that era. The programme also visits Caspana, a remote altipiano village where time has stood still for centuries and Ciu Ciu, the village that still conserves the first Christian church built by the Spanish colonisers of Chile.

The capital Santiago features extensively and the programme includes interviews with two Maltese Jesuit priests, Fr.Eddie Mercieca and Fr. Tony Mifsud, who teach at the Universita` Cattolica and do social work amongst the poor and homeless in a huge metropolitan city.
