Gozo - A Brief History

Ulisse….
Lura fil-gzira
ta` Calypso

In 1798, Napoleon Bonaparte, while sailing East towards Eygpt, overran Malta, bringing to an end the long hold of the knights of St.John over these islands. The island of Gozo was also "captured" by French troops. However, passive resistance in Gozo soon transformed into an armed struggle and the French abandoned the island after only 140 days.

The documentary highlights this brief yet important chapter in the island`s history and gives due credit to archpriest Francesco Saverio Cassar who led the uprising against the superior French troops.

Script is by Rev. Dr.Joseph Bezzina. Commentary is by George Peresso.

Duration: 22minutes
