Gozo`s 29,000 inhabitants
live in Victoria, the main town, and in thirteen villages. The villages
still conserve their identity. A big village square, often dominated
by a big church, is the start and the end of a number of roads that
radiate to all corners of the village. Street corners are often
embellished by niches with statues. Despite the leap into the third
millennium, the villages of Gozo still proudly practise a way of
life not much different from that of their forefathers.
