Abundant layers of blue
clay help conserve the rainwater that falls sparingly on the Maltese
islands. Gozo is mainly agricultural and the island is dotted with
fresh water springs that gush with the precious liquid throughout
the year. Some springs have a history of their own. Others are linked
to particular episodes dating back to the days when corsairs used
to land on Gozo to obtain supplies of fresh water and then raid
the island`s community.
